GCA News June 2017

Hello Neighbors,

Hope everyone’s summer is off to a great start and you are enjoying the beauty of Greenbriar. We have many skilled gardeners in the neighborhood; take the time to get out and see some of the lovely lawns and splendid blooms. Of course, some folks don’t have the time, temperament or ability to battle the tall grass and dandelions. Our greenbriarfairfax.nextdoor.com page has plenty of great recommendations for lawn care service — some are even Greenbriar residents!

You know who else loves all the beautiful owers in Greenbriar? Honey bees! Bees are incredibly important to the environment; without them, we would cease to have foods like cucumbers, apples, almonds and cherries, just to name a few. And honey, of course. It’s been touted that consuming local honey can greatly reduce the effects felt by allergy sufferers.

All that, and they beautify their surroundings, too. Since we started beekeeping, we have bigger, better blooms on our flowers and trees. There is a Bee Keeper Group on greenbriarfairfax.nextdoor.com — check it out if you think you might be interested in starting a hive of your own.

The GCA hosted two events recently in our series of 50-year anniversary fun. The Social Butterfly Butterfly Social Happy Hour and Potluck was a huge hit, well attended by residents who just made Greenbriar their home a couple weeks ago to the Greenbriar Pioneers who have been here the whole 50 years.

On May 9, Rajeswari Tress and the Rocky Run Middle School Yoga Group performed a beautiful yoga dance as a tribute to mothers and caregivers to celebrate Mother’s Day. Rajeswari has volunteered to donate her time and talents to teach yoga to interested Greenbriar residents. We are working out the logistics now. Stay tuned for details on this wonderful addition to our calendar of 50-year fun.

GCA will host some trivia night competitions at the Cale Community Center. Details coming soon. Check the greenbriarfairfax.nextdoor.com Events page and never miss an opportunity to have fun with friends and neighbors.

Don’t forget to vote in the June 13 primaries. I’ll be volunteering at GBE, so if 846 is your precinct, I’ll see you there!
